The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has filed an application seeking a stay of execution of a Federal High Court judgment in its ongoing leadership dispute, pending the determination of its appeal.
The party argued that enforcing the judgment before the appeal is heard could prejudice its case and create uncertainty over its leadership structure.
In the application, the SDP maintained that there are substantial legal issues before the appellate court that warrant preserving the status quo until the appeal is determined.
The SDP is the appellant in this case. The respondents are Salawu-Adeniyi Mustapha Olaitan, INEC, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, and Uchechukwu Chukwuma. Gabam and Chukwuma are currently facing criminal charges in the Wuse Magistrate court.
The party urged the court to exercise its discretion in the interest of justice, insisting that granting the application would prevent complications that could arise if the judgment is implemented before the appeal process is concluded.
The latest move marks another chapter in the internal leadership crisis that has continued to generate legal battles within the party, with the outcome expected to shape its administrative direction ahead of future political activities.
