Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has defended the appointment of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose to the Governing Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), describing him as a politician with deep grassroots appeal.
Reacting to public reactions trailing the appointment, Sani said Fayose’s political experience and connection with ordinary Nigerians make him well-suited to contribute to the agency’s leadership.
He argued that appointments to governing boards should not be assessed solely on technical expertise, noting that effective governance also requires individuals with leadership experience, public engagement skills and an understanding of the needs of local communities.
Sani posted on X: “My Friend Fayose is a grassroots politician and a man of the masses. He is appointed to an Agency where the Rural masses can have access to electricity.
“Why do you want to judge him by what he said years ago? Let he who has never assured his EX that they will be together forever cast the first stone.”
Sani maintained that Fayose’s political career and years in public service have equipped him with the capacity to contribute meaningfully to the board’s oversight responsibilities.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently approved the appointment of Fayose and other members to the REA Governing Board as part of efforts to strengthen the agency’s leadership and advance the country’s rural electrification programme.
