At least 32 people have been killed and more than 200 others displaced following a prolonged farmer-herder conflict in Udege, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The violence, which has persisted for over three months, has left several communities deserted, with residents fleeing their homes amid recurring attacks and worsening insecurity.
Raising the matter on the floor of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, the member representing Udege/Loko Constituency, Onarigu Onah Kana, described the situation as a humanitarian crisis, saying the conflict has claimed dozens of lives and destroyed homes, farmlands and other means of livelihood.
He warned that the continued violence poses a serious threat to food production and the economic wellbeing of affected communities, urging authorities to take decisive action to halt the killings.
“For over three months, the peace of Odeni Gida Electoral Ward has been shattered.
“About 32 people have been killed, others remain missing or injured, while more than 200 residents have been displaced. Homes, farms and businesses have been destroyed, leaving our people in fear and hardship.” Kana told lawmakers.
The lawmaker called on the state government and security agencies to intensify efforts to restore peace, protect lives and property, and provide urgent relief for displaced residents.
The Assembly also appealed for swift humanitarian intervention to support victims and facilitate the safe return of those forced to flee their communities
