Many Feared Dead as Suspected Herdsmen Attack Benue Community

Several people have been feared killed following a fresh attack by suspected armed herders on Efeyi community in Ugboju Otukpo LGA of Benue State, in what residents described as another deadly assault on the troubled region.

CSONews24 gathered that the herdsmen invaded the village on Tuesday and opened fire on residents.

The attackers reportedly invaded the community, opening fire on residents and forcing many to flee for safety. The incident also left several homes destroyed, while an unspecified number of people sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Eyewitnesses said the assault triggered panic, with survivors abandoning their homes as the gunmen operated for hours before fleeing the area.

So far, 13 bodies have been recovered while a search is ongoing.

Local authorities and security operatives have since been alerted, while efforts are ongoing to ascertain the exact number of casualties and restore calm to the affected community.

The latest attack adds to the recurring violence that has continued to plague parts of Benue State, with renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect rural communities from persistent attacks.

Residents have appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify operations in vulnerable areas and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
