The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intensified enforcement against the production, distribution and sale of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200 millilitres, reaffirming its commitment to curbing harmful alcohol consumption across Nigeria.
The agency said the renewed enforcement follows the expiration of the transition period granted to manufacturers, distributors and retailers to phase out the affected products from the market.
NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the crackdown is aimed at ensuring full compliance with existing regulations introduced to reduce alcohol abuse, particularly among young people and other vulnerable groups.
She noted that enforcement teams have been deployed nationwide to monitor compliance, inspect outlets and remove prohibited products from circulation, warning that individuals and businesses found violating the directive will face appropriate regulatory sanctions.
Adeyeye urged manufacturers, distributors and retailers to comply fully with the regulations, stressing that the agency remains committed to protecting public health and promoting responsible alcohol consumption through strict enforcement of safety standards.
