Gunmen Abduct Oyo School Headmaster, Demand ₦30 Million for His Release

Suspected gunmen have abducted the headmaster of Nomadic Basic School in Igbojaye, Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, with the kidnappers demanding a ₦30 million ransom for his release.

The victim, identified as 60-year-old Matthew Kolawale Owoade, popularly known as “Onaiye,” was reportedly seized on Saturday evening while returning home from his farm. Family members said the abductors later contacted them through the victim’s mobile phone and demanded ₦30 million as ransom.

The victim’s son, Abiola Owoade, said the family has been thrown into anxiety since the incident. He disclosed that the headmaster’s motorcycle was later found abandoned in a nearby bush, raising concerns about his safety.

The incident has unsettled residents of Itesiwaju Local Government Area, with community members and education stakeholders calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the victim’s release and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Confirming the abduction, the spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said security operatives have launched an investigation and are working swiftly to rescue the victim while tracking down those behind the crime.

This abduction adds to growing concerns over the persistent threat of kidnapping in parts of the country, with renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect residents and public servants.
