The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a man and his company before the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan over an alleged N7.819 million fraud arising from a car transaction.
The EFCC Ibadan Zonal Directorate identified the defendant as Adeoye Gabriel Adewale, alongside his company, De Lukas Global Concept Limited. They were brought before Justice Olusola Adetujoye on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
According to the anti-graft agency, Adewale allegedly posed as a car dealer and used a fake car mart to persuade Abdulrasaq Awotedo to pay N7,819,000 for two vehicles.
The commission alleged that Awotedo transferred the money into the First Bank account belonging to De Lukas Global Concept Limited, after which Adewale allegedly converted the funds for personal use.
The defendant and his company were consequently brought before the court on a one-count charge bordering on stealing by conversion of the N7,819,000 allegedly belonging to Awotedo.
The charge reads, “That you, Adeoye Gabriel Adewale and De Lukas Global Concept Limited between 6th October, 2021 and 23rd March, 2022, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, converted to your own personal use, the sum of N7, 819, 000.00 (Seven Million, Eight Hundred and Nineteen Thousand Naira), property of one Abdulrasaq Awotedo and thereby committed an offence of stealing by conversion contrary to Section 390(9) Criminal Code Act, Cap C38, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”
Adewale pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him.
Following the plea, EFCC counsel, Sanusi Galandachi, asked the court to schedule the matter for trial and order the defendant’s remand in a correctional facility.
Defence counsel, A. Towolawi, however, told the court that he had already filed a bail application on behalf of his client.
Towolawi urged Justice Adetujoye to grant Adewale bail pending the hearing and determination of the case.
The judge subsequently adjourned proceedings to hear the bail application and directed that Adewale be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre.
The allegations against the defendant have not been established by the court, and his plea of not guilty means the prosecution is required to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
