Residents of parts of Benue State have expressed anguish over the latest wave of deadly attacks in their communities, saying they have been left to face the violence without adequate protection.
The affected residents, who recounted their ordeal, said the renewed attacks claimed several lives, displaced families and forced many to flee their homes in search of safety.
Yes, there was an attack this morning between 8am and 9am by suspected armed herdsmen. They came to Ankpechi community in Oglewu Ward, shooting sporadically. They shot one person, forcing residents to scamper for safety,” Adole said.

Responding to the attacks, the Idoma Association in the United States appealed to President Bola Tinubu to take immediate and decisive action to end the persistent killings in Benue South Senatorial District.
According to them, repeated appeals for improved security have yielded little result, leaving communities vulnerable to recurring assaults by armed attackers.
They also termed the attacks as the “wanton slaughter, maiming and total annihilation” of the Idoma people by suspected armed herdsmen.
“With a high sense of responsibility and a bleeding heart, we are compelled to draw your attention, Your Excellency, to the wanton slaughter, maiming and total annihilation of our people, the good people of Idoma land in Benue South Senatorial District of Benue State by bloodthirsty herdsmen, a barbarism that has lasted over a decade unhindered,” the group stated.
They described the situation as devastating, alleging that they have been abandoned to their fate despite the persistent insecurity in the state.
The residents appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to halt the attacks, restore peace and ensure displaced persons can safely return to their communities.
