Umar Sani Challenges INEC-Recognised PDP, Says Party Has Lost Its Original Identity

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, has questioned the legitimacy of the party structure currently recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), arguing that it does not represent the PDP founded by its original stakeholders.

Sani said the present leadership arrangement has moved away from the principles and ideals that guided the formation of the party, insisting that the recognised faction no longer reflects the vision and values upon which the PDP was established.

He stated that the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), which he described as the custodian of the PDP’s legacy, has taken legal steps to address the leadership crisis and seek clarification on the authentic structure of the party.

The PDP chieftain expressed confidence that the courts would provide a resolution to the dispute, adding that the outcome of the legal process would help determine the direction of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
