Former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Moh. Lukman, has explained why he suspended his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the decision was informed by concerns over the party’s internal direction and political engagements.
Lukman made this known in a statement issued on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’ on Friday, where he said he took the decision after extensive consultations and a careful assessment of recent developments within the ADC party.
According to him, the suspension of his membership does not amount to a withdrawal from active politics but reflects his dissatisfaction with the party’s handling of internal affairs and its evolving political engagements.
He stressed that political parties must be guided by transparency, internal democracy and fidelity to agreed principles if they are to earn and retain public trust.
Lukman noted that he would continue to participate in national political discourse and support initiatives aimed at strengthening democratic governance, despite stepping away from the ADC for the time being.
“I suspended my ADC membership out of frustration. I am not speaking as an ADC member because Nigeria is facing a serious challenge.
“Partisan politics will not get us out of the situation we are in. I am prepared to retain my ADC membership if it helps bring all the party’s leaders together, because Nigeria is bigger than the ADC,” he said.
He maintained that his action was driven by principle rather than personal interest, expressing appreciation to his supporters while reaffirming his commitment to Nigeria’s democratic development.
