Peter Obi Decries Conditions at Sokoto IDP Camp, Calls for Government Action

Peter Obi

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed concern over the living conditions of internally displaced persons at the Ramin Kura IDP camp in Sokoto State.

Obi visited the camp alongside his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, during their engagements in the state.

He said the conditions facing displaced Nigerians reflected the wider security and humanitarian challenges confronting the country.

“I have always insisted that as long as even one Nigerian lives in an IDP camp, we are all internally displaced,” Obi said.

Obi argued that Nigerians forced from their homes by insecurity should not be left to spend prolonged periods in temporary camps, stressing the need for government to create conditions that would enable them to return safely to their communities.

He also called for stronger action to address insecurity, poverty, unemployment and other factors contributing to displacement.

The visit formed part of the NDC presidential ticket’s engagements in Sokoto, where Obi and Kwankwaso also met traditional leaders and interacted with residents on issues affecting the state.

Obi maintained that protecting citizens and restoring displaced communities should remain a priority for government.
