Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has accused Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi of making what he described as false and misleading claims about the Tinubu administration.
Onanuga made the allegation while reacting to recent comments by Obi concerning the Federal Government and its policies.
“Headlines don’t lie like Peter Obi lies, recklessly,” Onanuga wrote.
The presidential aide questioned the accuracy of Obi’s claims, accusing the former Anambra State governor of repeatedly presenting information without sufficient evidence.
“His poor sports record as governor is well documented in the archives,” he said.
Onanuga also defended the administration’s record, arguing that the government’s policies and actions should be assessed based on verifiable facts rather than political statements.
“Today, he talks, very glibly, of course, about the need for the FG to invest in sport, when, as governor for 8 years, he treated Anambra sportsmen and women and even, unconscionably, the physically challenged sportsmen and women shabbily,” he wrote.
The exchange is the latest in a series of public disagreements between Obi and the Presidency as political activities build ahead of the 2027 general election.
Obi has continued to criticise the Tinubu administration over its handling of economic and social issues, while the Presidency has repeatedly challenged his assessments.
