EFCC Arrests 14 Chinese Nationals, Nigerian Over Illegal Lithium Processing in Ogun

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 15 suspects, comprising 14 Chinese nationals and a Nigerian, over alleged illegal lithium processing activities in Ogere, Ogun State.

In a statement released on Monday, the anti-graft agency disclosed that the arrests took place on Friday, October 23, 2026, during an operation conducted by operatives of its Lagos Zonal Directorate 2.

According to the commission, the operation followed credible intelligence and surveillance that led investigators to four plants allegedly involved in unauthorised lithium processing within the Ogere area. All 15 suspects were taken into custody at the facilities.

Items recovered during the raid included bags of lithium rocks, 18 mobile devices, four laptop computers, two decoders, a television remote control and a trailer truck.

The EFCC said investigations into the alleged activities were ongoing and that the suspects would face prosecution once the process had been concluded.

“The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” the statement noted.
