Peter Obi Challenges Critics to Release His Records

Peter Obi

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has challenged anyone with concerns about his past to make his records public, insisting that he has nothing to hide. Obi made the remarks during an interview on 90 Minutes Africa, where he was asked about claims by Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, that Nigeria’s presidential candidates have FBI files.

Obi made the statement amid renewed political scrutiny and calls for greater transparency among presidential contenders ahead of the 2027 general election.

“I don’t know. I’ve never met the FBI.” He said.

The former Anambra State governor said his records, including those relating to his public service and personal background, should be subjected to public scrutiny rather than speculation.

“I’m begging the University of Nigeria to make available every document in my file, how I was admitted and all my results from year one to final year.” He said.

He maintained that transparency should apply to all political actors, stressing that Nigerians deserve access to verifiable information when assessing those seeking public office.

Obi also urged his critics to present facts and official records instead of relying on allegations or unverified claims.

“If you seek public life, you should subject yourself to public scrutiny because you are a leader and you must exemplify the values that make society work.” He said.

The NDC candidate has consistently made accountability, prudent management of public resources and transparency central to his political campaign.

His latest remarks come as political parties and presidential aspirants intensify preparations and public engagements ahead of the 2027 elections.
