Nigeria’s Ebola Index Patient Evacuated Abroad for Treatment

Nigeria’s reported Ebola index patient has been evacuated abroad for medical treatment aboard an air ambulance, according to a report by ARISE News.

The evacuation reportedly occurred early Monday morning at the private jet terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, following the arrival of a convoy comprising three vehicles, including ambulances and diplomatic vehicles.

Sources cited by the news outlet said airport officials subsequently restricted access to the area. ARISE News also reported obtaining video footage showing a medical evacuation aircraft preparing for the patient’s departure.

According to the report, the woman is the wife of a Swiss diplomat serving in Nigeria. Her reported evacuation comes amid concerns surrounding the alleged Ebola case and the country’s response to the development.

However, the Federal Government had yet to issue an official statement confirming the evacuation at the time the report was published. The circumstances surrounding the transfer and the patient’s destination were not disclosed in the report.
