The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced the final stage of its 2024/2025 recruitment exercise, subjecting shortlisted candidates to documentation, physical fitness tests and medical examinations.
The Service said the two-week screening exercise began on Monday and will end on September 19 at the Nigeria Customs Service Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Gwagwalada, Abuja.
NCS National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, disclosed the development on Thursday, explaining that the final screening covers applicants shortlisted for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs II (ASCII), Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.
According to him, candidates are being received and screened in batches arranged alphabetically based on their states of origin, an arrangement designed to minimise congestion and maintain order throughout the exercise.
Speaking to the candidates, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resource Development, Frank Onyeka, said the final selection process would assess more than physical fitness, with candidates’ character, discipline and professional conduct also coming under scrutiny.
Onyeka congratulated those who made it to the stage and urged them to comply fully with all instructions guiding the screening exercise.
“On behalf of the NCS Comptroller-General, Bashir Adeniyi, I congratulate you on reaching this stage.
“I urge you to remain orderly and strictly adhere to the guidelines.
“Beyond physical requirements, your attitude, discipline and conduct are critical factors in deciding who ultimately joins the service,” he said.
The Assistant Comptroller-General added that the NCS was collaborating with the Customs Police and other relevant units within the Service to protect the credibility and integrity of the recruitment process.
Also speaking, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs and Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Dow Gaura, said reforms in administration and improved collaboration among relevant agencies had enhanced the smooth conduct of the screening.
Gaura said the entire recruitment exercise was being conducted in line with the policy direction of the Comptroller-General of Customs, which prioritises continuous operational improvement, collaboration and innovation.
“The process has been seamless, hitch-free and conducted without any casualties,” he said.
Screening for candidates in the Assistant Superintendent of Customs II (ASCII) cadre concluded on Thursday, while the assessment of shortlisted applicants in the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres will continue until September 19.
The final screening follows the NCS announcement of an annual recruitment cycle and the release of the final list of 3,852 successful candidates in its 2024/2025 recruitment exercise on August 4.
A total of 573,680 applications were received for the 3,852 available positions. Of the successful candidates, 1,275 were selected for the Superintendent Cadre, 367 for the Inspectorate Cadre and 2,210 for the Customs Assistant Cadre.
