Kebbi NUT Rejects Viral Video Alleging Poor Education Funding

The Kebbi State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has dismissed a viral video alleging poor funding of education and inadequate salaries for teachers in the state.

State NUT Chairman, Zaki Sarki, said in a statement on Monday that the video as old, edited and doctored, alleging that it was being circulated to discredit the administration of Governor Nasir Idris.

Sarki said the claims in the video failed to reflect what he described as recent improvements in the state’s education sector.

He said teachers’ salaries, which he claimed were previously below ₦18,000, had been reviewed to ₦75,000 under the current administration.

The NUT chairman also cited the construction of mega schools across the state’s four emirates, more than 2,500 classrooms, the recruitment of over 2,000 teachers and the provision of furniture and learning materials as evidence of government investment in education.

Sarki urged those making claims about the state’s education sector to verify their information before publishing or circulating them.

He reaffirmed the union’s support for the government’s education initiatives while calling for continued attention to teachers’ welfare and learning conditions.
