Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has expressed grief over the death of former Supreme Court Justice, Umaru Atu Kalgo, describing his passing as a major loss to the state and Nigeria’s legal profession.
Kalgo died on Monday at the age of 89 and was buried according to Islamic rites.
In a condolence message, Governor Idris described the late jurist as a distinguished son of Kebbi whose life was marked by integrity, professionalism and dedicated public service.
The governor said Kalgo made significant contributions to Nigeria’s judiciary and the development of the country’s legal system during his career.
He noted that the former Supreme Court justice’s commitment to justice, intellectual excellence and public service would continue to inspire members of the legal profession and future generations.
Kalgo retired from the Supreme Court in 2007 after a distinguished judicial career that also saw him serve as chairman of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission.
Governor Idris prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and urged his family and the people of Kebbi State to preserve his legacy of service and integrity.
