A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Danladi Umar, the former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). The bail is set at N100 million, with one surety also required to provide the same amount.
The court granted Umar bail on Wednesday after hearing the proceedings for his case.
Just to remind you, Umar was being held at the Kuje Correctional Centre by order of an FCT High Court in Maitama. This followed his arraignment by the Federal Government on four corruption charges.
Justice Peter Kekemeke in a brief ruling also ordered that the surety should have a certificate of occupancy.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arraigned Umar on a 4 count charge of conferring undue advantage on himself while serving as the chairman of the CCT.
The EFCC stated that Mr. Umar accepted gifts from contractors involved in projects for the Code of Conduct Tribunal. He has pleaded not guilty to these charges.
