The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has declared its support for President Bola Tinubu, naming him as their preferred choice for the 2027 general elections.
Mazi Ejimofor Opara, the National Publicity Secretary for the party, explained that the fact that the party’s presidential candidate’s name isn’t on the INEC nomination portal doesn’t mean they haven’t followed the electoral rules.
Opara said the party’s leadership had already resolved to back Tinubu’s re-election bid after what he described as extensive consultations within its ranks.
He further stated that the decision was reached by the party’s National Executive Committee, NEC, which concluded that supporting the president’s second-term ambition was in the overall interest of the country.
According to him, APGA is still actively involved in elections, even though they won’t have a presidential candidate this time around.
He mentioned that the party has finished submitting candidates for other elections and has already uploaded the names for the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly contests to the INEC portal.
“We have not uploaded a presidential candidate because the National Executive Committee of the party has already taken a decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.” Opara said.
