As Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation
President Bola Tinubu has asked the senate to confirm the appointment of former Director -General of securities and Exchange commission (SEC) Lamido Yuguda, as chairman of the Board of Asset management corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), in a bid to strengthen governance within the country’s financial sector.
The president’s request was confirmed in a letter read on the floor of the senate by the senate president Godswill Akpabio during Wednesdays plenary.
“I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of Mr. Lamido Yuguda as Chairman of the Board of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON,” the letter stated.
President Tinubu said the nomination was made in line with the provisions of the Asset management corporation of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, following the vacancy in the boards chairmanship.
Acting on the presidents announcement, the senate president referred the nomination of the senate committee on Banking, insurance and other financial institutions for screening and legislative consideration. The committee is expected to submit its report to the senate after the completion of the confirmation process.
