Alleged Visa Overstay: Two Nigerians Detained in Indian Police

Two Nigerian nationals, including a woman, have been detained in Dwarka, Delhi, India, for allegedly overstaying their visas during Operation VISTA 1.0, a police initiative targeting immigration violations involving foreign nationals.

The detentions followed checks by the Dwarka District Police, which reportedly established that the visas of both Nigerians had expired.

According to Indian media reports, the first suspect, Nwakor Paul Chukwuebuka, also known as Cypril Odigbo and Paul Chukwuebuka Okeke, was apprehended in Dwarka on August 7.

Police verification of his travel and identification documents reportedly confirmed that his visa had expired, prompting authorities to initiate deportation proceedings.

In a separate case, Aminat Aminu, a Nigerian woman, was arrested on August 10 after police found her residing in Dwarka despite having an expired visa.

Following verification of their immigration status, both Nigerians were reportedly brought before the appropriate authority, which issued orders for their deportation and repatriation.

The arrests were carried out under Operation VISTA 1.0, a special initiative of the Delhi Police aimed at monitoring the immigration status of foreign nationals and identifying violations, including visa overstays.

Under the operation, police teams conduct systematic checks of the travel and identification documents of foreign nationals residing in the city.

Authorities said the initiative was designed to identify individuals whose immigration status had expired or who were otherwise in breach of applicable immigration regulations.

Police said further legal and administrative action was being taken against the two Nigerians in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
