AAC asks EFCC to monitor Oyo government spending

AAC

The African Action Congress (AAC), Oyo State chapter, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to intensify its scrutiny of the state government’s financial activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party’s request was contained in a petition dated September 9, 2026, and submitted through its solicitors, Damilare Adenola and Co Law Practice. The document was received by the EFCC Ibadan Zonal Office on September 14.

Addressed to the Zonal Director of the anti-graft agency in Ibadan, the petition urged the commission to pay close attention to how public funds are allocated and spent by the Oyo State Government throughout the election period.

The AAC, through its Oyo State Chairman, Kayode Babayomi, said the party has a legitimate interest in promoting transparency and accountability in the administration of public resources, particularly with political activities ahead of the 2027 polls expected to intensify.

The party argued that closer examination of government expenditure before, during and after elections would help forestall the diversion or misuse of public funds for partisan political activities.

It further stressed that protecting state resources throughout the electoral cycle is crucial to strengthening accountability and preserving the credibility of Nigeria’s democratic process.

The AAC therefore called on the EFCC to exercise vigilant oversight of the state’s spending pattern during the period.

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had not issued any official response to the petition.
