Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has thrown his weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, predicting that the lawmaker will become the state’s next governor in 2027.
Wike made the declaration on Tuesday at Obiri-Ehie during a reception hosted in his honour by Ogbakor Ikwerre, the socio-cultural body representing the Ikwerre ethnic nationality.
While recognising political figures and other dignitaries present at the gathering, the former Rivers governor singled out Chinda, describing him as the “former Minority Leader in the House of Representatives and, by the grace of God, the next governor of Rivers State.”
Chinda, who currently represents his constituency in the House of Representatives, is expected to contest the 2027 governorship election against the backdrop of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s decision not to seek another term in office.
The lawmaker has maintained a longstanding political relationship with Wike and has increasingly emerged as a prominent figure within the former governor’s political camp amid shifting alliances ahead of the 2027 election.
Wike’s declaration further signals the direction of his political camp in Rivers State as preparations for the next governorship contest gather momentum.
