2027: Tinubu’s Re-election Key to Nigeria’s Prosperity – Lagos Guber Candidate
Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, has described the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the 2027 general elections as crucial to achieving Nigeria’s desired prosperity.
Hamzat spoke on Monday at the inauguration of the PBAT/KOH Lagos Central Campaign Office on Harden Street, Lagos Island, where he urged residents, particularly those in the Lagos Central Senatorial District, to mobilise voters for the party’s candidates.
The deputy governor, who is also the APC’s governorship candidate in Lagos State for the 2027 elections, said Tinubu’s longstanding political ties to Lagos made the state’s support for his re-election particularly significant.
He added that returning the President to office would allow his administration to continue the programmes and initiatives it had commenced.
Hamzat noted that Lagos had the highest number of registered voters in the country, stressing the need to translate the figure into actual votes through increased participation in the electoral process.
“We are commissioning this office today to take our campaign to the grassroots. We know Lagos Island has been doing really well in voting, but that is not enough, as many people still do not vote,” he said.
He urged residents to demonstrate their support for Tinubu by turning out on election day, adding that the campaign office would serve as a platform for mobilising voters at the community level.
Hamzat also cited Osun State, where he said about 54 per cent of registered voters participated in the last election, as an example of the need to improve voter turnout.
He challenged APC members to encourage more residents to participate in the 2027 elections, warning that expressions of political support would have little electoral impact without actual votes.
“My charge to you is that, as you are all seated here today, on election day, make sure you take someone along to the polling unit to vote for Tinubu.
“It will be dangerous for us not to come out and vote for all our candidates if we truly say we love them,” he said.
The Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, said the campaign office would strengthen engagement between the Lagos Central Senatorial District and the state leadership of the party.
According to him, the facility would also provide a platform for communicating the party’s policies and achievements across local government areas, wards and polling units.
Ojelabi urged party members to serve as ambassadors of the APC by taking messages about the achievements of Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to residents at the grassroots.
He also advised eligible party supporters who were yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to do so promptly.
The state chairman called for peaceful campaigns, constructive and issue-based engagement, as well as effective voter mobilisation ahead of the elections.
In his remarks, Senator Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni, who represents Lagos Central Senatorial District, described the inauguration as a significant milestone and a symbol of unity within the party.
He said the development reflected the APC’s determination to consolidate its achievements, urging members and supporters to remain united despite their differences and maintain discipline throughout the electioneering process.
Eshilokun-Sanni also called for sustained grassroots mobilisation and a stronger party presence across communities, markets and households.
He expressed confidence that continued engagement with residents would help the party pursue its electoral objectives in Lagos Central, Lagos State and the country.
Earlier, the Director-General of the PBAT/KOH Lagos Campaign Organisation, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, described the inauguration as a reaffirmation of Lagos Central’s political significance to the APC.
Obanikoro said the office underscored the party’s commitment to strengthening its political structures and expanding its presence across the senatorial district.
He urged party members and supporters to intensify campaign activities and grassroots mobilisation in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
