The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has rejected reports that its structure has merged with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s Legal Adviser, Yahaya Garkuwa, described the claim as false, alleging that individuals linked to a rival faction were impersonating PDP officials and spreading misinformation.
Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday in Bauchi, the state PDP Legal Adviser, Yahaya Garkuwa, dismissed reports that the party’s structure had been merged with the APM.
Garkuwa said the PDP structure recognised by his faction remains intact under State Chairman Ibrahim Kashim Toro, while the party’s national leadership is headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed.
He maintained that the party had not joined the APM or any other political platform, insisting that its members remained committed to the PDP.
The legal adviser said the leadership dispute within the party had been subjected to litigation, with court decisions, according to him, affirming the faction led by Mohammed at the national level and Toro in Bauchi.
He disclosed that the party was considering legal action against individuals allegedly presenting themselves as authorised PDP officials.
Garkuwa also pointed to the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections, saying its candidates had been published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“Dissatisfied with the decision, the Tanimu Turaki faction went to the Court of Appeal, where the Court of Appeal still confirmed the leadership of the PDP under Abdulrahman Mohammed, and in Bauchi State under Hon. Ibrahim’s leadership.” Garkuwa said.
He urged PDP supporters to disregard reports of a merger, insisting that the party remains active and prepared to participate in the 2027 elections.
