Residents in several parts of Abuja are experiencing another electricity outage following the tripping of a 100MVA transformer at the Apo 132kV/33kV Transmission Substation.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) disclosed the development in a public notice issued on Wednesday, attributing the disruption to a fault involving the transformer.
According to the transmission company, oil spillage detected on the red-phase high-voltage bushing of the transformer triggered the tripping and disrupted supply to four 33kV feeders—H31, H33, H35 and H37.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, hereby informs the public that the 100MVA TR4 transformer at the 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation tripped in the early hours of today.
“Our maintenance crew are already carrying out a detailed investigation on the transformer to ascertain the exact cause of the tripping, to enable us effect repairs and restore the transformer,” TCN stated.
The development has resulted in a fresh blackout across parts of the Federal Capital Territory, with the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company confirming that areas including Apo Legislative Quarters, Lokogoma and Apo Resettlement are among locations affected by the disruption.
Other communities within the affected distribution network may also experience interruptions in electricity supply as investigations and repair efforts continue.
The latest outage comes shortly after TCN announced an earlier blackout affecting parts of Abuja, which was linked to maintenance activities on the power network.
