Troops Thwart Mass Abduction Attempt, Rescue 27 Victims in Sokoto-Zamfara Border Operation

Security forces have foiled an attempt by armed criminals to abduct a large number of residents and rescued 27 victims during a coordinated operation across parts of Sokoto and Zamfara States.

The troops, acting on intelligence reports, engaged the attackers during the operation, disrupting their plans and preventing the mass abduction from taking place.

The troops reportedly engaged the suspected kidnappers in a gun battle, forcing them to flee the area before they could carry out the abduction.

During the operations, security personnel also rescued 27 people who had earlier been kidnapped in separate incidents across the two states.

The rescued victims were reportedly freed from the custody of the criminals and are receiving necessary support, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing attackers.

The operation underscores the continued efforts by security agencies to tackle banditry, protect vulnerable communities and restore peace across troubled areas in the North-West region.

Security authorities have reiterated their commitment to sustaining offensive operations against criminal elements and ensuring the safety of residents.

Bakatsine said the soldiers successfully prevented a planned mass abduction along the Gummi–Sokoto highway after responding swiftly to reports of the attack.

Bakatsine further disclosed that the troops recovered several livestock and motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing criminals.

He praised the soldiers for their bravery and commitment in protecting lives and communities.

“Kudos to the troops for their courage, professionalism and continued sacrifices in keeping communities safe,” he wrote.
