Troops Overrun Bandits, Rescue 11 Hostages in Kebbi

Troops of the Nigerian Army under Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued 11 kidnapped victims in two separate operations conducted in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The rescue operations, which took place on October 30 and 31, 2026, followed military responses to security incidents involving armed bandits in the Ribah and Wasagu areas.

In the first operation, troops responded to a distress call reporting that armed bandits had blocked a road leading to Ribah town and attempted to gain entry into the community.

On arrival, the troops discovered that an unspecified number of civilians had been abducted, while several motorcycles were found abandoned at the scene.

The soldiers immediately launched a pursuit of the fleeing bandits, engaging them in a gun battle that forced the criminals to abandon seven of their captives.

The rescued victims were identified as Sa’adu Bala, Dantani Yahyi, Nura Musa, Nasiru Muhammad, Abdulakeem Abubakar, Abdulahi Maikudi and Zaki Gom. They have since been reunited with their families.

In a separate operation on October 31, troops conducting a patrol in the Wasagu area came under attack by armed terrorists.

The soldiers responded with firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat and abandon four victims who had earlier been abducted from their farms in Wasagu Village.

The rescued victims, identified as Lawali Ali, Samaila Shuaibu, Kasimu Shuaibu and Aliyu Bala, all from Wasagu Village, were subsequently handed over to the community head.

The two operations bring to 11 the number of kidnapped victims rescued by troops in the area within 48 hours.

The military reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across communities within its area of responsibility, assuring residents that troops would sustain proactive patrols and respond promptly to emerging security threats.
