Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS)

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has reinforced its commitment to protecting its digital infrastructure and sensitive information through enhanced cybersecurity measures, inter-agency collaboration and continuous capacity development.

The commitment was reaffirmed at the Service’s 2026 Cybersecurity Awareness Seminar, organised by its ICT and Cybersecurity Directorate on Thursday, October 29, at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja.

The seminar brought together cybersecurity experts and resource persons from key national and international institutions, including the Department of State Services (DSS), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

Addressing participants, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General, Finance and Accounts, DCG SB Daura, underscored the strategic importance of cybersecurity in safeguarding the Service’s digital infrastructure, protecting sensitive information and strengthening national security.

She described cybersecurity as a collective responsibility, urging officers and personnel to remain vigilant, adhere strictly to established security protocols and promptly report suspected cyber threats.

The Comptroller-General also emphasised the need for continuous capacity building, institutional collaboration and proactive measures to address emerging cybersecurity challenges before formally declaring the seminar open.

Technical sessions featured presentations on inter-agency collaboration in cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection, combating cybercrime through law enforcement and international cooperation, data protection and privacy in the digital age, as well as cybersecurity awareness and human risk management in the digital workplace.

The seminar also featured a plenary session facilitated by Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB), which examined practical strategies for securing critical systems through effective inter-agency collaboration.

The session provided participants with an opportunity to share professional experiences, exchange ideas and explore practical approaches to strengthening the Service’s cybersecurity architecture.

The initiative underscores the Nigeria Immigration Service’s resolve to build a cyber-resilient institution through sustained investment in technology, personnel development, strategic partnerships and compliance with global cybersecurity best practices.

The Service noted that protecting its digital assets and sensitive information remains critical to the effective discharge of its statutory responsibilities in border security and migration management, particularly amid evolving cyber threats to national security.
