Tinubu Renews Appointment of NTA, NAN Chief Executives
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed the tenure of the Director-General of NTA Network News, Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos, and the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ali Mohammed Ali, for another three years.
The renewal takes effect from October 20, 2026, when their first three-year terms, which began on October 20, 2023, expire.
A statement issued on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the decision reflected the administration’s confidence in the two media executives to continue advancing the mandates of their respective organisations.
Dembos, a native of Yola, Adamawa State, is a veteran broadcaster and former National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU).
He joined the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) as an announcer at its Kaduna station in 1989 after completing his National Youth Service. He subsequently rose through the ranks, serving as General Manager of NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano, among other positions.
He retired from the NTA in 2017 as Acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre and later served as Executive Director of Marketing before his appointment as Director-General of NTA Network News in 2023.
Ali, on his part, is a veteran journalist and media manager with more than three decades of professional experience. He has been actively involved in media development, content production and the evolution of journalism in the digital era.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Bayero University, Kano; a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communications from Bayero University, Kano.
President Tinubu urged the two chief executives to justify the confidence reposed in them by sustaining their commitment to the mandates of their organisations and supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President also expects the NTA and NAN leadership to continue strengthening public-interest journalism, improving content delivery and adapting their organisations to the rapidly changing media environment.
