The Anambra State Government has acknowledged that former Governor Peter Obi recorded notable achievements during his tenure, reversing earlier remarks that had criticised his administration.
Mefor spoke on Thursday during an interview on the 90MinutesAfrica podcast, hosted by Rudolf Okonkwo.
Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Law Mefor, made the clarification while speaking on the legacy of previous administrations in the state.
Mefor said Obi performed well in certain areas during his tenure, particularly in the management of public resources and the execution of development projects.
He, however, maintained that recognising Obi’s achievements did not amount to endorsing all aspects of his administration or the political positions of the former governor.
The commissioner’s remarks come amid renewed public debate over Obi’s record as Anambra governor and the performance of successive administrations in the state.
“The intention of the Anambra State government is not to indict Peter Obi. Peter Obi did well as governor.
“There is no rift between Governor Soludo and Peter Obi. They are both in politics, and they have their interests to defend.” Mefor said.
Obi governed Anambra State from 2006 to 2013 before becoming the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election and subsequently joining the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
