Professor Aminu Ibrahim, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, has joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ibrahim, a former rector of Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto, and a professor of mathematics at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, announced his decision at a defection ceremony in Sokoto, the state capital.
Explaining his move, the academic said he intended to contribute to the development of Sokoto State, with particular attention to education and other critical sectors of the economy.
He maintained that his background and experience as an academic placed a responsibility on him to apply his expertise towards improving the welfare of residents and advancing the state’s development.
The Sokoto State APC chairman, Haruna Sarkin-Gobir Adiya, welcomed Ibrahim into the party, describing his arrival as a significant addition to its membership.
Adiya also called on the former rector to collaborate with existing party members to strengthen unity and cooperation as the APC prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Ibrahim’s defection comes amid growing political realignments in Sokoto State, where political parties are working to consolidate their support bases and strengthen their structures ahead of the next general elections.
