Rufai Oseni Predicts Bloody Governorship Election, Doubts Adeleke’s Re-election

Arise Television’s The Morning Show anchor, Rufai Oseni, has raised concerns over the likely influence of federal power on the outcome of the August 15 Osun State governorship election, saying Governor Ademola Adeleke would need a “miracle” to retain his position.

Oseni made the remarks on Tuesday while assessing the political dynamics ahead of the poll, identifying the influence of the Federal Government as a major factor that could shape the election.

He argued that the deployment of what he described as “federal might” could significantly affect the contest and urged voters in the state to turn out and make their choice.

“Coming back to Osun elections, like I’ve been saying, the number one factor in this election is the power of federal might, and federal might has been used very well.

“That’s why I predicted it’s going to be a miracle if Adeleke passes this test because of federal might. And when I’m saying this, I’m saying this because I want the people of Osun to go out there and put their money where their mouth is,” he said.

The broadcaster also expressed apprehension about the security situation surrounding the election, alleging that individuals had already sustained injuries in incidents connected to the political contest.

Oseni warned that the presence of several competing forces could heighten tensions and create conditions for violence as the state approaches polling day.

“I’m not saying it to distract Osun people. Like I said before, this election will be very bloody. People were also hurt this morning.

“A few days to election, people were also hurt. So it’s going to be a bloody election. Pure and simple, because there are a lot of moving parts,” he added.

Oseni further pointed to the potential impact of a strong third candidate, arguing that previous electoral patterns in Osun suggested such a combination could pose a challenge to Adeleke.

“And when you check election history, any time you have a cocktail of federal might and you have a big third candidate, it doesn’t favour Adeleke,” Oseni said.
