Pressure is mounting on the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to investigate and, if established, prosecute Senator Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, following a controversial video allegedly showing him making threatening remarks against members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
The video, which has circulated widely on social media, purportedly captured the All Progressives Congress (APC) senator addressing party supporters during a protest in Ilesa over alleged attacks on APC members.
In the footage, Fadahunsi was allegedly heard calling on APC supporters to attack Accord Party members wherever they encountered them and stop them from exercising their right to vote in the election.
The alleged comments have triggered strong reactions, with Nigerians calling for police authorities to establish the authenticity of the footage and take appropriate action if the claims are proven.
The controversy has also heightened concerns about possible violence and voter intimidation as political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of Saturday’s poll.
Ojudu Demands Police Action
Reacting to the development, APC chieftain Babafemi Ojudu urged the Inspector-General of Police to act on the alleged remarks, describing them as incompatible with democratic principles.
“This is unacceptable in a democracy. Not even in the heyday of military rule would a military person talk like this.
“IGP Tunde Disu, over to you. We await action,” he wrote in a post on his official Facebook page.
Adeleke Seeks Arrest, Prosecution
Osun State Governor and Accord Party candidate in the election, Ademola Adeleke, also demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the senator.
Adeleke argued that the matter should no longer be viewed solely through the lens of partisan politics, describing the alleged statement as a national security concern.
According to the governor, he had already raised the matter with the Inspector-General of Police and requested an investigation into the senator’s conduct.
“I have raised this issue with the IGP and demanded the immediate investigation and arrest of Senator Fadahunsi. The IGP has confirmed the video and assured me of immediate action,” Adeleke said.
The governor further called for the involvement of President Bola Tinubu through the Office of the National Security Adviser, stressing the potential implications of the alleged remarks for electoral security.
Senator Fadahunsi Denies Allegation
Fadahunsi, however, has rejected the allegation, distancing himself from the words attributed to him in the circulating footage.
Speaking with TVC News on Tuesday night, the senator claimed that the video was not genuine and had been produced using artificial intelligence.
“The video being circulated by Davido and his group is AI-generated,” he said.
The conflicting claims have placed the authenticity and origin of the video at the centre of the controversy, with calls growing for relevant authorities to establish the facts before the election.
With voters preparing to head to the polls on Saturday, the incident has added to concerns over political tensions, public safety and the need for all actors to avoid statements or actions capable of triggering violence during the electoral process.
