NABTEB Conducts Maiden CBT Entrance Examination, Releases Results Within 72 Hours

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has successfully conducted its first Computer-Based National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) into Federal and State Technical Colleges, marking a major milestone in the Board’s digital transformation drive.
Speaking at the 2026 Selection and Placement Exercise for qualified candidates into Federal and State Technical Colleges in Abuja, NABTEB Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Aminu, said the computer-based examination results were processed and released within 72 hours, while results for the conventional paper-based examination were released within 21 days using the Board’s newly developed NABTEB Aptitude Placement Test (NAPAT).
He described the feat as a testament to NABTEB’s commitment to delivering credible, efficient and technology-driven examination services.
According to Dr. Aminu, a total of 15,290 candidates registered for the June 13, 2026 National Common Entrance Examination, out of which 13,848 sat the examination across 34 Federal Technical Colleges and 168 State Technical Colleges in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
He disclosed that 10,426 candidates, representing 75.29 per cent of those who sat the examination, scored 50 per cent and above, while 5,708 candidates, or 41.22 per cent, obtained scores of 70 per cent and above.
The Registrar noted that the performance of the candidates provides a solid basis for the ongoing admission and placement exercise into technical colleges nationwide.
He urged members of the selection committee to ensure that admissions are conducted with fairness, transparency and integrity, stressing that placements should be based strictly on merit, available vacancies, candidates’ trade preferences, catchment considerations and other approved Federal Government guidelines.
Dr. Aminu also called for intensified advocacy to boost enrolment in technical colleges, arguing that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) should no longer be regarded as a second-choice option.
According to him, technical colleges remain critical to producing the skilled workforce required to drive Nigeria’s industrialisation, economic diversification and technological advancement.
He reaffirmed NABTEB’s commitment to supporting the Federal Ministry of Education through strengthened assessment systems, expanded deployment of digital technologies, improved quality assurance and enhanced collaboration with stakeholders to advance technical and vocational education.
Representing the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Director of Technology and Science Education in the ministry, Mrs. Patricia Ogungbemi, disclosed that the Federal Government had commenced a nationwide validation of enrolment figures and an assessment of workshop facilities in all Federal Technical Colleges.
She explained that the exercise would generate accurate data to guide the immediate distribution of workshop tools, adding that plans were already underway to rehabilitate workshops and provide modern equipment across the colleges.
Ogungbemi further stated that tuition and other charges in Federal Technical Colleges had been reviewed to make technical education more affordable and accessible.
She urged stakeholders to uphold transparency, fairness and professionalism throughout the admission process to ensure that only qualified candidates are admitted.
Also speaking, a representative of the Chairperson of the Federal Science and Technical College Admission and Placement Committee (FETCAP), Mr. Akintunde Samuel, described the exercise as a significant step towards strengthening technical and vocational education in Nigeria.
He called on committee members to strictly adhere to the approved admission guidelines to ensure a credible and transparent placement process.
