Man Utd Players Reportedly Unhappy With Club Direction as Carrick Faces Pressure

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez has criticised the club’s leadership for failing to strengthen the squad sufficiently, insisting that responsibility for the team’s struggles should not rest solely on manager Michael Carrick and the players.

Martínez made the remarks after United’s 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid on Tuesday, saying the club needed to invest more in new players to compete with Europe’s top teams.

“I expect more from our technical director, Jason Wilcox,” the Argentine defender said, adding that United needed a stronger squad to handle demanding fixtures.

He acknowledged that the players also had to improve but questioned the continued focus on changing managers whenever results deteriorated.

“You can’t keep changing, changing, changing the manager. What about other areas?” Martínez said, suggesting that the club’s leadership and recruitment decisions should also come under scrutiny.

The defender argued that United could not rely on the previous season’s progress without making further improvements, noting that rival teams had strengthened their squads.

Football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, wrote on X: “Lisandro Martínez, not the only player at Manchester United with that view of the situation at club level.

“Man United assessing possible sanction/fine for Licha, as @lauriewhitwell reports.

“Out of contract in June 2027 but club option until 2028.”

Martínez’s comments have added to scrutiny of United’s direction and placed renewed attention on the club’s hierarchy as pressure mounts on Carrick following the disappointing result.

Reacting to the interview, Carrick said he had not watched Martínez’s comments and declined to respond in detail, noting that emotions could run high after a defeat. He maintained that the players remained committed despite the recent results.
