The Lagos State House of Assembly has suspended the confirmation of two nominees forwarded by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for appointment into the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC).
The decision was announced during Thursday’s plenary after the Assembly considered the report of its screening committee on the governor’s nominees.
The nominees Durosimi Yinka and Seriki Ahmed are the ones affected.
Lawmakers withheld confirmation of the two nominees over issues raised during the screening process, while deliberations on their appointments were deferred pending further legislative action.
The lawmakers decided this after accepting a report from a special committee. That committee was led by Olumoh S. L. from Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituency, and the report was about an Irrevocable Standing Payment Order (ISPO) for BlueCap Technology Limited’s sweeping project.
The report Olumoh presented said that LAWMA’s Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, and his team told the committee that just sweeping roads by hand isn’t enough to keep busy streets clean.
The Assembly, however, proceeded with the confirmation of other nominees who successfully met the requirements for appointment into the commission.
The development underscores the House’s constitutional oversight role in the appointment process, with lawmakers maintaining that all nominees must satisfy the necessary standards before receiving legislative approval.
