A member of the House of Representatives representing the Bindawa/Mani Federal Constituency of Katsina State, Ahmed Doro, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing unresolved internal challenges within the ruling party.
Doro formally announced his defection during Thursday’s plenary at the House of Representatives, where his letter was read by the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas.
In the letter, dated July 18, 2026, the lawmaker attributed his decision to persistent divisions and internal disputes within the APC, which he said had made it difficult for him to continue his political activities under the party’s platform.
His defection marks another shift in the composition of the House as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The move is expected to strengthen the PDP’s presence in Katsina State, while adding to the growing wave of defections and internal political repositioning across major parties in the build-up to the next electoral cycle.
The lawmaker’s defection is effective starting July 18, 2026, as stated in the notification sent to the Speaker.
