The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Kwara State, Rt. Hon. Zakari Mohammed, has intensified grassroots mobilisation and political consultations, engaging youth leaders, community groups and party candidates as preparations gather momentum for the 2027 general elections.

The consultations, brought together representatives of the Nigeria Political Elite Group, Ebira Progressive Forum, Mai Jamma’a Youth Network, ADC youth leaders and candidates across Kwara Central to discuss party unity, voter engagement and strategies for expanding the party’s support base.

At a meeting with the Coordinator of the Nigeria Political Elite Group, Mr. Awoleye Joshua, and members of his delegation at the ADC campaign office on Asa Dam Road, Mohammed emphasised constructive political engagement, inclusive leadership and peaceful participation in the democratic process.

Joshua stressed the importance of collaboration, strategic planning and sustained civic engagement in strengthening democratic institutions and encouraging wider public participation.

The candidate also received a delegation from the Ebira Progressive Forum, Kwara State, led by Hon. Usman Bajeh Joseph. The group expressed its readiness to work with Mohammed’s campaign committee to mobilise grassroots support and strengthen the party’s structures across the state.

Mohammed thanked the delegation for its solidarity and urged members to sustain their commitment to party unity and peaceful political engagement.

Youth mobilisation takes centre stage

Youth participation featured prominently in the candidate’s consultations, including a meeting with the executive council of the Mai Jamma’a Youth Network, Kwara State, led by its coordinator, Hon. Aliyu Maiyaki.

The engagement focused on strengthening links between youth organisations and party leadership, expanding community outreach and ensuring that young people participate actively in the political process.

Also in attendance were Hajia Risikat Motunrayo Abdullahi, ADC senatorial candidate for Kwara Central; Hon. Taoheed Bala Usman, the party’s Kwara North senatorial candidate; and its House of Representatives candidates for Ilorin West/Asa and Ilorin East/Ilorin South federal constituencies, Hon. Abdulkadir Olanrewaju Oba-Aluko and Dr. Saad Oladimeji Ikokoro, respectively.

Other participants included House of Assembly candidates, party executives and Prof. Issa Mohammed Gana, chairman of the ADC Elders Forum in Kwara State.

In a separate meeting at Agric Estate, Ilorin, Mohammed engaged the party’s state youth leader, Alhaji A. S. Musa, and some local government youth leaders on strategies to strengthen grassroots structures, improve voter engagement and expand the party’s reach across the state.

Mohammed urged the youth leaders to remain united, disciplined and committed to peaceful mobilisation. Ikokoro underscored the need for sustained engagement with local communities, while Musa reaffirmed the youth structure’s commitment to mobilising young people around the party’s political agenda.

Candidate coordination and party unity

The governorship candidate also met ADC candidates across Kwara Central to coordinate campaign activities and reinforce unity among the party’s flag-bearers.

The meeting featured candidates for the National Assembly and Kwara State House of Assembly, alongside party officials and other stakeholders.

Those present included Oba-Aluko, Ikokoro, Hon. Bashir Omokayode Yusuf, candidate for Magaji Ngeri Constituency; Hon. Hakeem Mustapha, popularly known as Emperor, candidate for Ajikobi/Alanamu Constituency; and Hon. Ishola Shittu Olayiwola, known as Aree, candidate for Afon Constituency.

Mohammed said unity, discipline and teamwork were essential to building a stronger political organisation capable of offering purposeful leadership to the people of Kwara State.

The candidates reaffirmed their commitment to collective mobilisation and campaigns focused on good governance, accountability and sustainable development.

The series of engagements highlights the ADC candidate’s effort to consolidate relationships with party structures, youth networks and community-based organisations ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, translating these consultations into wider electoral support will depend on sustained grassroots engagement, effective campaign coordination and the presentation of credible policy proposals addressing the concerns of Kwara residents.
