Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has encouraged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to embrace entrepreneurship and self-reliance rather than waiting for scarce white-collar jobs after completing their service year.
The governor gave the advice during an interaction with corps members, stressing the need for young Nigerians to acquire practical and vocational skills that can enable them to create sustainable sources of income.
Eno said the country’s evolving economic realities require graduates to think beyond traditional employment and take advantage of opportunities in agriculture, technology, manufacturing and other productive sectors.
He urged the corps members to make effective use of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, describing it as a pathway to financial independence and job creation.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment through programmes aimed at equipping young people with the skills and support needed to become entrepreneurs and employers of labour, rather than job seekers.
