The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced a special enforcement operation across Abia State aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and fatalities by targeting motorists who violate critical safety regulations.
The intervention, code-named Operation Kwusi Ihe Mberede Okporouzo, was launched by the Abia State Sector Command as part of the Corps’ 2026 road safety strategy to achieve at least a 10 per cent reduction in fatal crashes and serious injuries.
Speaking at the flag-off, Sector Commander Ngozi Ezeoma said the operation is designed to protect lives rather than punish motorists, stressing that enforcement will focus on traffic offences that contribute significantly to road accidents.
The exercise targets offense including speeding, overloading, mixed loading of passengers and goods, use of mobile phones while driving, absence of speed-limiting devices, and driving without valid license or vehicle documents.
“This operation is not intended to punish motorists but to save lives by discouraging risky driving that are responsible for the majority of road traffic crashes,” the Sector Commander said.
To support the operation, the command has deployed regular and special marshals, patrol vehicles, ambulances and tow trucks to major highways across the state to enhance emergency response and ensure strict compliance with road safety regulations.
According to the FRSC, the special patrol will be conducted periodically as part of sustained efforts to improve road safety, discourage reckless driving and reduce preventable deaths on Abia roads.
