Barrister Oluwafemi Faleye: The Visionary Transforming NSITF Into A Model Of Excellence

By Comrade Dominic Ogakwu

In the world of public service, true leadership is measured not by speeches or fanfare, but by tangible, lasting impact. For Barrister Oluwafemi Faleye, Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), this measure of success has become the hallmark of his tenure since July 2024.
Within a remarkably short period, Barrister Falaye has steered the NSITF through a transformative journey, positioning the Fund as a beacon of efficiency, credibility, and innovation in social insurance.
Stakeholders have hailed his appointment as a “round peg in a round hole,” citing the remarkable strides achieved under his leadership. His approach is defined by quiet determination, strategic foresight, and a relentless drive to achieve results without unnecessary noise. This is a rare blend that distinguishes him in the corridors of public administration.
At the core of this transformation is teamwork. Together with his staff, Barrister Falaye has energized the NSITF workforce, restoring morale and instilling a renewed sense of purpose. This internal revitalization mirrors the Fund’s external renaissance, marked by enhanced visibility, strengthened credibility, and purposeful partnerships with labour unions, employers, professional bodies, and government institutions.
One of the standout achievements under his leadership has been the strategic expansion of the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) to Nigeria’s vast informal economy. Through deliberate outreach, stakeholder engagement, and innovative collaboration, artisans, traders, and informal workers are now being brought into the social protection fold. This is a testament to the Fund’s inclusivity and commitment to safeguarding all workers.
Barrister Faleye has also boldly navigated the previously challenging landscape of onboarding Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) into the ECS. Where others saw barriers, he saw opportunity. His tactful engagement and purposeful strategy have broken new ground, reinforcing his reputation as a decisive, results-oriented leader.
Internally, regular staff audit and restructuring exercise exemplifies his forward-thinking approach. Designed to realign human resources with operational objectives, this initiative ensures that talent and responsibility are optimally matched.
Concurrently, the MD has addressed long-standing welfare concerns, including stagnation, suppressed promotions, and overdue adjustments, while exploring the reintroduction of allowances and provision of essential working tools. This decision aligned with global best practices in public sector management.
Financially, NSITF is stronger than ever. Under Faleye’s stewardship, contribution collections have surged, underpinning the Fund’s stability and operational capacity. This growth is underpinned by his focus on digitalization, occupational health, and adherence to international standards, ensuring that the NSITF not only meets today’s demands but is well-prepared for future challenges.
Barrister Faleye’s remarkable journey is anchored in a solid foundation of professional excellence. With over two decades of experience spanning legal, corporate finance, and public service including key roles in the Lagos State Civil Service and as special assistant to the Executive Governor on project finance and public-private partnerships, he brings a wealth of expertise to the NSITF.
A recipient of the Excellence Leadership Award by the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON), he continues to champion workplace safety, injury prevention, and staff welfare with unwavering dedication.
Academically distinguished, he holds qualifications from the University of Law, London, and the University of Liverpool, complemented by executive education at Harvard Law School. His leadership is not just about strategy—it is about vision, courage, and the ability to transform institutions from within.
Under Barrister Falaye, the NSITF has transcended its past limitations to emerge as a Grade-A institution respected by peers, valued by stakeholders, and committed to delivering tangible benefits to every worker in Nigeria.
His story is one of focus, daring, and credibility, continue to remain a story that inspires confidence that NSITF’s best days are still ahead.
