Airlines have resumed flight operations following the suspension of the industrial action embarked upon by aviation unions, bringing relief to passengers affected by the disruption.
The strike had disrupted flight schedules at several airports, forcing some airlines to cancel or reschedule flights and leaving passengers stranded.
The unions suspended the action after engagements with relevant stakeholders over their grievances, including issues concerning the remittance of the five per cent Ticket Sales Charge and other labour-related demands.
The spokesperson for Air Peace, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, stated on Tuesday that the airline has resumed operations but is still working to accommodate passengers affected by the industrial action.
“We are trying to see how many flights we can operate with the number of passengers who have been waiting at the airport. Yes, they stated that it has been suspended,” he said.
Following the suspension, airlines began restoring normal operations and attending to passengers whose flights were affected by the industrial action.
Some carriers also commenced efforts to clear the backlog created by the disruption and return to their regular schedules.
The development is expected to ease pressure at the airports as airlines and aviation unions continue discussions aimed at resolving the outstanding issues.
The unions have, however, maintained their concerns over workers’ welfare and other unresolved matters in the sector.
