A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress ,ADC, Kola Ologbondiyan, has criticised the Federal Government’s handling of fuel subsidy reforms, arguing on Monday that the policy has worsened economic hardship for Nigerians.
Ologbondiyan, who spoke on behalf of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, said the removal of the subsidy had significantly increased the cost of living and placed additional pressure on households and businesses.
He argued that government policies should be assessed by their impact on ordinary Nigerians, particularly amid rising costs of transportation, food and other essential goods.
Ologbondiyan maintained that the economic difficulties being experienced by Nigerians should prompt the government to reconsider measures that continue to increase the burden on citizens.
He also called for policies capable of reducing living costs and improving the purchasing power of Nigerians, stressing that economic reforms should ultimately translate into better living conditions.
His comments come amid renewed debate over the impact of fuel subsidy removal as political parties and their candidates begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general election.
