ASUU-TSU gives Taraba govt fresh 14-day ultimatum over 2025 agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) Branch, Jalingo, has issued a final 14-day ultimatum to the Taraba State Government to fully implement outstanding provisions of the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU Agreement.

The union said failure to resolve the issues by the deadline could lead to lawful measures aimed at protecting the interests of its members.

The fresh notice, which runs from September 14 to September 28, 2026, was contained in a statement issued to journalists in Jalingo and signed by the ASUU-TSU Chairman, Dr Joshua Garba Mbave.

According to the union, several provisions contained in the FGN/ASUU 2025 Agreement remain unimplemented by the state government and require immediate attention.

Despite the outstanding matters, ASUU-TSU recognised the Taraba State Government’s efforts towards resolving challenges confronting the university, as well as its stated commitment to industrial harmony and dialogue.

“While we acknowledge the Government’s commitment to industrial harmony and dialogue, we wish to note that some key provisions of the Agreement remain outstanding and require urgent attention.

“We appreciate the efforts of the Taraba State Government towards addressing issues affecting the University and implementing the FGN/ASUU 2025 Agreement.

“Consequently, ASUU-TSU issues a final 14-day notice effective from 14th September, 2026, to 28th September, 2026, urging the government to take concrete steps toward full implementation of the outstanding provisions.

“The Union remains committed to peaceful engagement and constructive dialogue but may consider lawful measures to protect members’ interests if the issues remain unresolved after the expiration of the notice,” the statement said.

The union called on relevant stakeholders to back initiatives designed to preserve a stable and productive academic environment at the institution.

It also expressed optimism that the state government would respond promptly to the demands in order to maintain stability and prevent disruption of academic activities at Taraba State University.

The latest ultimatum follows an earlier 14-day notice issued by ASUU-TSU on August 13, 2026, to Governor Agbu Kefas and the Taraba State Government over the same agreement.

The earlier notice expired on August 26, with the union saying it had not seen concrete and verifiable action from the government on its demands.

ASUU-TSU did not commence industrial action at the time, however, as the university’s combined convocation ceremony was scheduled to take place during the period.
