The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State has declared its readiness to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that it can form the next government in the state.
The party’s State Chairman, Dr Sani Muhammad Gumel, made the position known while speaking with journalists, saying the APC’s control of the state government would not prevent the opposition from securing victory at the polls.
Gumel said the political dynamics in Jigawa were shifting in favour of the ADC, which he claimed was steadily attracting support from different categories of voters across the state.
He explained that the party was expanding its grassroots network while engaging political stakeholders and mobilising supporters ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, the ADC is working towards winning all three senatorial districts, the 11 House of Representatives constituencies and the 31 State House of Assembly seats in Jigawa.
The chairman said the electorate would ultimately judge the APC on its record in office, arguing that occupying government does not, by itself, secure another electoral mandate.
“Incumbency is not a guarantee of victory. What matters is the confidence of the people, the credibility of the candidates and the ability to provide good governance,” he said.
Gumel maintained that the ADC was building its identity around accountability, transparency, economic development and improved welfare, presenting the party as a viable alternative to the ruling APC.
He further disclosed that politicians from different parties had continued to join the ADC, saying many of them possessed grassroots influence and were prepared to work collectively towards challenging the APC in 2027.
“We have real and genuine politicians with grassroots support in our party. With credible candidates in all the positions, we are optimistic that ADC will take over power in Jigawa State come 2027,” he said.
He urged ADC members and supporters to maintain unity and deepen engagement at the grassroots, adding that the party would sustain consultations with political actors, communities and other stakeholders across Jigawa.
The ADC chairman also encouraged women and young people to participate actively in the electoral process and ensure their votes were protected and counted during the 2027 elections.
Gumel said the party would unveil more details of its policy programmes and electoral strategy as preparations for the polls gather momentum.
