ADC Chieftain Austine Ibok Defects to APC, Directs Supporters to Join Ruling Party

A prominent member of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and former Cross River State chairman of the Labour Party, Austine Ibok, has announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Ibok made the announcement on Friday and instructed his supporters across the 196 wards in Cross River State’s 18 local government areas to move their existing political structures into the APC.

Explaining the move, the former Labour Party chairman said he reached the decision after consultations with his family, political associates and supporters. He also pointed to prevailing political circumstances and what he described as the broader interest of Cross River State.

Ibok expressed dissatisfaction with the internal workings of the ADC, alleging shortcomings in cohesion, equity, justice, fairness and sincerity within the party. He particularly referenced disagreements surrounding zoning arrangements and other leadership decisions as factors behind his decision to leave.

The ADC chieftain also pledged his support for the administration of Governor Bassey Otu, citing what he described as its achievements in security and infrastructure, alongside efforts to recover Cross River’s oil wells and advance the Bakassi Deep Seaport Project.

“Our support is driven by performance, political reality, and the collective desire to secure a brighter future for Cross River State through effective and purposeful governance,” he said.

Ibok’s defection adds another political development to the evolving alignment of opposition figures and their supporters in Cross River State ahead of future electoral contests.
