61.54% of Candidates Pass Core Subjects as WAEC Releases 2026 WASSCE Results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, with 61.54 per cent of candidates obtaining credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

The results were announced on Wednesday by the Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Amos Dangut, during a press briefing in Lagos.

According to Dangut, a total of 1,200,514 candidates achieved the minimum academic requirement for admission into tertiary institutions out of the 1,950,726 candidates who sat for the examination across the country.

He disclosed that the examination was conducted between April 24 and June 19, 2026, while the marking exercise took place from July 2 to July 20 at 88 designated centres nationwide.

Dangut said 102,708 examiners were engaged to ensure the timely and credible assessment of candidates’ scripts.

He expressed satisfaction that all stages of the post-examination process had been successfully completed, paving the way for the release of the results.

“Today, I am happy to inform you that all the processes leading to the release of results have been completed. It is now my pleasure to announce the release of the results of candidates who sat the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2026 in Nigeria,” he said.

The release of the results marks the conclusion of the 2026 WASSCE for school candidates, enabling successful candidates to proceed with applications for admission into higher institutions across Nigeria and beyond.
