The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has disclosed that his recent meetings with British government officials and Nigerians living in the United Kingdom focused on addressing Nigeria’s leadership challenges and rebuilding the country.
Obi made this known in a statement on Thursday, October 22, following a series of engagements in London.
The former Anambra State governor said discussions centred on the need to tackle corruption, promote accountability and address poor leadership, which he identified as major obstacles to Nigeria’s development.
According to him, these challenges have continued to limit access to essential services, including quality healthcare, education and decent employment opportunities.
“We must build a Nigeria where the child of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody,” he said.
Obi stressed that Nigeria must become a country where citizens have equal opportunities to succeed, regardless of their background or connections.
He also advocated a system in which merit, hard work and competence determine people’s opportunities rather than political connections or privilege.
The former governor reiterated his call for a Nigeria that works for everyone, insisting that effective leadership and accountability are necessary to achieve sustainable national development.
The engagements come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Obi continuing consultations with Nigerians at home and abroad.
